Matt is a qualified counsellor who is warm, down to earth and deeply committed to helping people feel seen, understood and supported to grow. Clients are drawn to Matt for his compassion, authenticity and the way he helps them make sense of life’s challenges while moving toward what really matters.
He brings a rare mix of professional skill, lived experience and genuine humanity to the people he works with. Having personally navigated challenges with alcohol, drugs, anxiety and depression, Matt understands firsthand the courage it takes to ask for help. These experiences have shaped the way he works: with empathy, openness and a belief that no one is ever “broken” but instead just need the right tools and support to step into who we truly are. Whether it is mental health, relationships, trauma, or life transitions, Matt helps his clients make sense of what feels messy and move toward what matters most. He blends evidence-based approaches such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), EMDR, and the Gottman Method for couples. This combination allows Matt to meet people exactly where they are, while also helping them uncover the deeper values and strengths that give life purpose. For couples, Matt draws on the world renowned Gottman Method, grounded in over 30 years of research, to guide partners toward deeper understanding, trust, empathy and intimacy. He knows that love can be complex, but he also knows it can be transformed with the right kind of support. Beyond his counselling room, Matt also makes an impact in the community through workshops in schools that focus on strengthening the bond between fathers and sons. These workshops create a safe space to talk about mental and emotional health, break down outdated ideas of masculinity, and build the kind of connection that allows both younger and older men to thrive. This work reflects Matt’s belief that real change happens not only within individuals, but also in the families and communities that surround them. In his spare time, Matt enjoys exploring quirky cafes, listening to music or audiobooks, spending time with loved ones, recharging in nature and going to the gym. Matt's area of expertise and experience includes, but is not limited to:
Matt has also completed training in the Gottman method for Couples Counselling, EMDR and IFS.
